April 2025 Update
Team360 April 2025 Update

Hi,

As we edge closer to the conclusion of the 2024–25 European season, I want to check in with a realistic but determined message as we prepare for what will undoubtedly be another highly competitive summer transfer window.

Following on from my last update in January, not much has changed in terms of how cutthroat this market is—if anything, competition has intensified. With hundreds of players soon to be released across Europe, we’re going to see an influx of talent hitting the market. That means more competition for fewer spots, particularly in the lower tiers where many of you are currently focused.

The summer window often gets romanticised as the “big one”—a clean slate, a fresh round of opportunity. But let’s not forget that it brings with it its own challenges. There will be players coming off contracts from top divisions dropping down in search of game time, club academies releasing players en masse, and agents from around the world trying to place their players. Clubs will still operate on tight budgets, particularly in the non-league and lower-league spaces, and many of them will wait until late into pre-season before finalising their squads.

For free agents, especially, the battle continues long after the window officially closes. Just because you’re not signed by September 1 doesn’t mean it’s over—but it does mean the journey gets tougher.

You need to be ready physically, mentally, and logistically to trial at short notice, potentially in a new country or league system. And many clubs—particularly in the lower leagues—will not take a chance unless you show immediate value. That could mean versatility, standout fitness levels, or the ability to slide into a squad without much onboarding.

I can’t stress enough: the transfer window is just a moment in time. It’s not your only opportunity, and it doesn’t define your future. The reality is, many contracts—especially in lower-tier European football—are signed outside of the window. Players are brought in mid-season due to injury crises, poor runs of form, or simply because a manager takes a liking to a player’s mentality after a good trial or reference.

Let’s remain sharp and grounded. The dream is still alive—but only for those who stay ready and focused.
